When we sat with Stephen from Crop Marks
Design to come up with a logo to define The River of Grace,
we were praying that God would inspire our conversation
and Stephen’s creativity. Stephen listened to the
story of RoG, asking question and taking notes. He came
back with a number of options, but what you see is the
one that immediately grabbed the RoG team.
Here are some of the things we see in the
logo…
* Our unseen foundation is God’s amazing
GRACE
* a river bringing the life of the gospel
to the Greater Capital Region
* the 4 ripples at the top catch the idea
of the 4 major cultural currents (tribes/subcultures)
in our area and church (boomers 55+, young white collar
prof, blue collar Nascar/Harley riding x-hippies state
employees, and genXers – and if you don’t
feel you fit in any of these groupings, you still fit
at The River of Grace!!!)
* the brush strokes that form the cross
points to the artistic master piece of God, the beauty
of his grace on display in Christ (a few have seen in
this cross a hint of a bloody stiletto/knife, perhaps
a reminder of the gruesome cost of our redemption)
* and the logo is not quite symmetrical
because we want to do kingdom work outside the box of
“institutional church” (OK, so we’re
a bit ‘off centered’ or ‘on the edge’
or ‘not quite right’. We’ll accept that
too).
