Understanding the Muslim World
by Dan Dore, New Tribes Mission
This seven week course examines the history of Islam and the difference between classical Islam and folk Islam. For many, the Muslim world is one that is not easily understood. The goal of this course is to familiarize students with the Muslim world to effectively engage Muslims in spiritual dialogue, especially those living, working and studying in New England.
- Week 1: History of Islam.
- Week 2: Classical Islam.
- Week 3: Folk Islam.
- Week 4: Radical Islam.
- Week 5: Moderate Muslims.
- Week 6: Roadblocks for Muslims considering Christianity.
- Week 7: Bridging the gap between Islam and Christianity.
Dan was born and raised in Laconia, N.H., and is a 1978 graduate of Laconia High School. He and his wife Michelle (from Belmont, N.H.) have served for 16 years in Guinea, West Africa, with their four children. Their ministry consisted of doing church planting among Muslim tribes, with New Tribes Mission, as an extension of Evangelical Baptist Church of Laconia. Some things Dan missed most in Africa were the N.H. snow, N.H. fishing, and Boston Creme donuts! Dan is currently a full time NTM Representative in New England, and a part time graduate student at Columbia International University in the Muslim Studies program.
